I am in my fifties and have been working as a counsellor for 15 years. I work with both couples and individuals. At heart, counselling is about conversations which enable people to make sense of their lives – where they have come from and what has shaped them – and to make the changes they are wanting. I offer a calm, private space in which people can talk freely about what is troubling them, and bring warmth, curiosity and humour to my work. In my counselling sessions I am interested in
people’s thoughts, feelings and actions – and how these can be harnessed to help people live fully.

As well as traditional talk therapy, I also offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), a type of therapy which was developed to help people overcome trauma. EMDR therapy doesn’t require someone to talk in detail about their distressing experiences. Rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors that result from trauma, EMDR enables the brain to access its natural healing process. I have had good results with EMDR with people who have found that traditional counselling, while helpful for making sense of their feelings, has not reduced their distress.
