What is Menopause CBT and how can it help?

Instep EAP have recently partnered with Menopause and Wellness, one of the first services in Aotearoa New Zealand to offer Menopause Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

What is Menopause CBT?
It is an effective, non-hormonal treatment for both perimenopause and menopause. As a non-hormonal treatment, all women can be supported with Menopause CBT treatment including those who have had or currently have breast cancer or a family history for breast cancer. Menopause CBT has been endorsed by both the British Menopause Society and Australasian Menopause Society.

Menopause CBT is an effective treatment for sleep difficulties, insomnia, low mood, mood changes, anger spells, irritability, anxiety, loss of self-confidence, poor motivation, hot flushes and night sweats associated with perimenopause and menopause.

Our treating clinicians are all qualified CBT therapists who have undertaken specialist menopause care and treatment training and have been accredited through their international menopause society training as being endorsed to provide specialist menopause care and treatment.

There are 34 symptoms of Menopause
Many women believe that they need to be experiencing hot flushes or night sweats to be having symptoms of perimenopause and menopause. It’s important to understand that some women will never experience these symptoms, but they will be experiencing other menopausal symptoms which could be supported with treatment.

However, these symptoms are commonly experienced by women during both perimenopause and menopause due to reducing oestrogen hormone levels. Thankfully, all 34 symptoms of menopause are all easily treated when they are recognised as being associated with the hormonal changes experienced in perimenopause and menopause.
